New Rehearsal Venue

The decision is final. We'll be changing our rehearsal venue to a new place starting this Friday (June 16):

The Music & Drama Institute,
16/F, Dotcom House,
128 Wellington Street,
Central, Hong Kong

Tel: (852) 2526-1499

A map is attached as below. The Dotcom House is highlighted by the red circle with cross.

This is a pretty decent place, but quite pricey. So don't be shocked if we go around collecting fees from each of you.

The time period we've booked for is 8-10 pm, but as usual, Apollo would like everybody to arrive at least 15 minutes earlier so that we can have some voice training without eating into our regular rehearsal time.

To reach this place, you can go from Queen's Rd Central, right opposite The Center (中環中心). Look for HSBC, and nearby there's Peel Street (卑利街). Walk up Peel Street and you'll hit Wellington Street (威靈頓街). If you cross the street, there's a Japan City (日本城) store. Dotcom House is very near the store, to its left.

Guest Book - Important Clarifications

Dear all,

It has come to my attention that someone find it difficult to navigate to the guestbook for posting comments / views on the 4 Apr concert. I need to clarify the following :

1. Please refrain from using the "Reply All" option when you reply E-mails. This is because one of the E-mail address in the list will automatically post your message onto the BLOG. This is meant to be used only by the administrator / moderator. I trust you will assist to keep the LEARNERS BLOG free from wanted messages / spam.

2. In order to ease the pain of navigating to the guest book, please click on this link GUEST BOOK. It will automatically take you to the guest book without any sweat.

There are already a few messages posted on the guest book. You can go there and have a look.

Regards
KL

Learners Concert

Dear all,
Tomorrow is our big day. Before the concert, I would like to settle some items.
1) If you have not paid the $100. concert fee, please do so. Collectors are Stephanie(soprano and alto) and Tang Kin Leung (tenor and bass).
2) If you have signed up for dinner after the concert, please look for Florence and pay $80. or $40 (full time students).
Please approach them as they may not recognise you. Thanks for your cooperation.
May I also take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped make tomorrow possible?
Apollo definitely deserves the greatest applause for his hard work, his musicianship and his coordinations. Surely, he is the main attraction to many of the current Learners. Our next concert is on 13 August, 06, at Theatre, City Hall Hong Kong. Hope you can stay with us. In fact, Apollo has promised to do the concert.
I'd like to thank the working team, Maisie, Sandra, Stephanie, Sau Woon, Florenece, Bonnie, for their commitment and effort. I also like to express my gratitute to those who have helped behind the scene. Tang Kin Leung is one of them who has assisted with all the IT work. He has registered a new link for us to express our comments after the concert http://learnerschorus.blogspot.com
After the concert, we'l take a break, ie 7 April will be a holiday. We will arrange a gathering to watch video of the concert and listen to the recording. Rehearsal venue and programme will be notified soon.
Let's enjoy tomorrow's performance, and Sandra's homemade muffins, Maisie's sandwiches. Thanks to aunties.
Jiayou!
Regards
Rebecca

Orchestra starts at 7:45pm. Requiem starts at 8:45 pm.

Please check if you have everything for the concert. Score, folder, uniform (dress code), tickets, money, make-up ....

On 31th we would like to confirm seating arrrangements. Please be prepared to spend some time on this. (We might have to have two plans ready)

Rehearsal time for Apr 2 dress rehearsal is 2pm to 4:30pm. This is the only chance to rehearse with the soloists. Please try your best to come. Venue: Pui Ching
Schedule for Apr 4: to be announced.

After the concert it is a tradition to have a meal together. The sign-up form for the dinner has been circulating. Please look for it at the rehearsal so that we won't miss you.

We will try to edit what we have recorded from the concert and make some kind of DVD/VCD. A gathering to watch the recording and sale of DVD/VCD will be scheduled.

'Rex': Video snapshot of 15 March rehearsal

Dear fellow Learners,

Rats...

Recall your memories (maybe bad ones) back at school. Think of your
English / phonics lessons, where you might have learned about 'rhyming
words', e.g. tin / bin
long / strong
wine / twine.

Now everyone say after me slowly:

Apollo's going to wrecK our necKS
if we don't say our 'RecKS' (Rex) properly.

Say this 100 times--20 times a day, 5 days from now on. By Friday,
hopefully our 'ks' will be loud enough to deafen one another!

Need Latin pronunciation guide? You may check out here or here

Have fun with your practice,
Mimi

Learners' No.1 Primary School in Guangxi

Since 2003, the choir has co-organized a number of charity concerts with the Hong Kong Christian Council to raise funds for education and medical services in China. The July 05 concert has raised fund to assist the establishment of the Learners' No.1 Primary School in Guangxi, China (廣西尤加鎮那奔學士第一小學).

The Hong Kong Christian Council organized a trip to Guizhou last Decemeber to visit various school sites. You can see the attached article for details.

During the coming Easter holiday, the Hong Kong Christian Council will organize another trip to Guizhou / Guangxi. One of the activity is to see the inauguration of the Learner's No.1 Primary School. The trip details will be posted later on the Learner's website. Anyone interested please contact Winnie Wong (who sings in the Alto part).

A final note is that in the coming Apr 06 concert we may be able to raise enough fund to support re-building another school (guess the name may be Learner's No.2 Primary School??).

July 05 Concert DVD

Thanks to the help of Arthur, we have produced a finely edited DVD of the July 05 Concert. Video footages of the choir and the conductor have been carefully mixed / tuned to achieve a near professional feel. I will prepare about 15 copies of the DVD which will be available for sale in this coming Friday rehearsal. Each DVD cost HK$20 which is on a first come first serve basis.

Update - the 15 DVD's have been sold out. Anyone who still want a copy can contact me.
